Akki Rotti

Coming to Karnataka cuisine, one can't forget the hot Akki Rotti with Engayi, Bisibelle Baath, Nucchina Onde with Coconut Chutney, Mysore Bonda, Holige with ghee, Gasgase Payasa, Sopina Saaru with Raggi Mudde (Raggi balls), Bassaru and Sopina Palya, how can I forget delicious Masala Dosa with Filter coffee, the list goes on.
Hmmmmmmmmmm, I miss my Mom's cooking so much. She's been our Chief Chef and Cooking consultant for all of us in our Family. Nothing can beat her expertise in cooking for 50+ of us in the family.
Being in Karnataka for more than 4 decades now we have more of Karnataka influence than Andhra. It's always been the typical Karnataka Style of cooking at home. I remember every Saturday Mom making those hot hot Akki Rottis served with butter and all of us fighting for our turns to relish that.
Akki Rotti is one of the famous Breakfast dish in every household in Karnataka. It’s prepared in different varieties all over Karnataka. I bet each of the variety is totally different taste to experience……..
Let’s try making one of the popular variety of Akki Rotti today............

Akki Rotti :

Ingredients:
Rice Flour : 2 cups
Onions : 2 nos. medium sized
Green Chilies : 2-3 nos.
Jeera : 1 tsp
Sabbasige Soppu or Dill Leaves : ½ cup
Salt to Taste
Warm Water to mix the dough

Method:
Finely chop Onions and Green Chilies. Wash the Sabbasige Soppu and finely chop them. Take a big bowl, add the Rice flour, Onions, Green Chilies, Jeera, finely chopped Sabbasige Soppu and salt to taste. Mix all the ingredients with warm water to Poori dough consistency. Divide the dough in equal number of balls, quite similar to our Chapatti/Poori dough.
Easiest method to make the Rotti is take a Paper plate, apply some oil on the paper plate. Take one dough ball and spread it on the paper plate.

Heat the non-stick Tawa on medium flame, put the paper plate on the Tawa with dough downside and slowly remove the paper plate. Apply some oil and allow the Akki rotti to cook nicely. Turn the Akki Rotti to cook the other side. It takes approximately 5-6 mins to cook both the sides.

Serve with butter or some spicy tomato chutney.

NOTE : You can make 3-4 Akki rottis with the above ingredients.
